Bathrooms, Brezels, Bach.... and a Castle

What a relief to land in Frankfurt this morning following our 9-hour flight! Despite our lack of sleep we were thankful for a safe flight. Frankfurt was a bit rainy but despite the haze we could see as we sped quickly down the autobon why so many Germans immigrated to Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, it is beautiful here. Lush, rolling fields green with winter wheat or bright yellow with rape seed (canola). Many coniferous and deciduous trees lined the highway while quaint communities dotted the countryside along with their steep pitched, red brink roofs and painted stucco walls. So picturesque!

Today we had some new German experiences here in Eisenach. 1-Sometimes you have to pay to pee, 2-Brezels with salt are delicious, and 3-Bach was born here.

We ended our afternoon with a pretty healthy climb up to Wartburg Castle. The misting and overcast weather only added to it's mystique. This is where Martin Luther was given refuge when his life was being threaten. While there Luther thought he would keep busy so he decided to transpose the Bible from the original Greek to the German language that everyone could unerstand so all Germans could come to know personally the gift of God's grace in their lives. Well, that's a high note to end on for today! Gute nacht.
