Nuremberg and Augsburg: Trials and Confessions

I must admit I didn't know a lot about Nuremberg before today other than the post WWII war crime trials were held here, but it is a lovely city in Germany with an impressive Imperial Castle, a charming Old Town square and beautiful Gothic churches.

Next we traveled to Augsburg and walked to the Church of St. Anne where Luther visited and stayed several times. It was here in Augsburg where Luther was asked to recant his writings by a papal delegation and when he refused it effectively excommunicated him from the Catholic Church. It was a turning point. Later Melanchthon writes the Augsburg Confession, named after this city. Some, if not all of it, is still used today.

To end the day we traveled the Romantic Road down to our hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. What a picturesque route across into the Bavarian region of Germany. It was especially exciting to see the snow-capped mountains just across the border into Austria. Well, tomorrow we tour Munich and it's hard to believe that it's our last day in Germany! Auf Wiedersehen. Goodnight.
